Danone supports farmers on their journey towards regenerative agriculture

We continue to empower projects in favor of an agriculture that preserves soils and biodiversity, respects animal welfare, while supporting farmers.

Agriculture is at the heart of Danone's activities in France, which involve more than 2,000 farmers: dairy farmers, fruit and vegetable farmers and farmers working on the impluviums.

For over 25 years now, we have been working hand in hand with farmers, local players, and experts:

In 1992, Danone initiated a first project to protect biodiversity and soils, integrating the economic dimension for producers to ensure the sustainability of the process. This first initiative was born in Evian and still lives today.

Since 2017, Danone is committed to the “Low Carbon Milk Farm” initiative and launched the “Les 2 Pieds sur Terre” program in 2018 to reduce farms’ carbon footprint through soil restoration. Farm trials are being conducted to test new and innovative farming methods, with training being conducted by farmers in collaboration with experts, while external partnerships are being developed to help implement the targeted standards.

In 2018, Danone pledged to have 100% of its products that are made in France come from regenerative agriculture.

To reach this ambition, we support farmers in: reducing the use of phytosanitary products, reducing tillage, creating new local crops to ensure self-sufficiency in livestock feed, converting to organic agriculture, reducing carbon footprint reduction, training for animal welfare, developing the circular economy, among others.

To accelerate this transition, we donated a full day’s sales- 5.4M euros- on September 21, 2018 to accelerate concrete project and support more farmers in their journey.

In 2019, more than 1,000 farmers are involved with us through 6 regenerative agriculture programs.

In October, we launch a unique operation in France with all Auchan stores to amplify the movement and support more and more farmers. From the 16th to the 20th, for every product sold in one of these stores, 0,10€ will go to regenerative agriculture projects.

Our field of action is expanding to design an ever more virtuous agriculture that guarantees healthy, safe and sustainable diets.
