Four decades of pioneering the plant-based-revolution

Alpro

Since 1980, Alpro has been on a plant-based mission to make delicious food and help people make positive choices.

We've come a long way since soya was the only plant-based kid on the block. We've added oats, almonds, hazelnuts and coconut to our list of base ingredients - because good food, starts with good ingredients. Totally yummy - if it wasn't, it simply wouldn't be Alpro!

Did you know Alpro joined Danone in 2017? We "B"elieve business can be a force for good.

Since 2018, Alpro has been proudly certified as a B Corp, a group of companies that put people and the planet alongside maximising profit.

The benefits of fortification

Plant-based goodness

A growing number of people are looking to add more plants into their diets, recognising the many benefits that they can provide. Some plant-based foods are low in saturated fats, can be fortified with a range of micronutrients such as calcium, vitamin B2, B12, and D, and can fit into a healthy balanced diet.

As a pioneer in plant-based for over 40 years, Alpro aims to convert minds and mouths to the wonders of plants. From our ‘no sugars’ ranges to our high protein options, we continue to innovate and renovate tasty and healthy plant-based choices.

We recently launched our Alpro Kids product range, designed to address parents’ concerns around healthy eating. Our range of plant-based drinks and alternatives to yoghurt provide a source of several nutrients needed for healthy growth*.

* Calcium and vitamin D2 are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle is recommended for good health.

Start your day like a champion

Plant protein

Our plant protein range caters to the active lifestyle segment, helping people to start their day like a champion. Made with soya, which is a great source of plant-based protein containing nine essential amino acids, they support people looking to increase their plant-based protein intake.

Improving our processes

Reducing our impact

We are exploring better ways to improve our process and packaging. Whether this be recycling the water and heat we use or using plant-based materials in our packaging, we are making our products as good on the outside as they can be on the inside. We have rolled out our tethered caps across our Alpro range, enhancing their recyclability. In 2025 we made the move to make our most popular Alpro oat drink from 100% British oats.  The move to local sourcing, coupled with a new production process, has delivered, on average, an estimated:

  • 25% lower carbon footprint
  • 20% reduction in land use
  • 70% reduction in water use across the product lifecycle vs Alpro’s previous Oat Original & No Sugars 1 litre drink recipes in the UK

We continue to innovate and look for ways we can reduce our impact so we can deliver more for people and the planet.

OUR FACTORY IN KETTERING:
Producing plant-based drinks for customers in the UK

Alpro's plant in Kettering has been producing 1 litre plant-based drinks for customers in the UK and Ireland since 2000. Core to this site is our commitment to reducing our environmental impact. Over the last 10 years, as demand for Alpro's plant-based drinks has grown, we have invested in expanding our production capacity. Our team of 200 achieved this growth while reducing emissions, water use and waste, helping our Kettering Factory to reduce its overall environmental impact and conserve natural resources.

Our supply point has been powered by 100% green electricity since 2008. We are lowering our carbon emissions, with a reduction of 45% megawatt hour (MWh) in intensity achieved since 2000. In 2019, we replaced existing lighting with a new LED system and our new Tri–Generation Plant, enables us to reduce energy consumption and the associated carbon emissions. We are also a Zero Waste to Landfill site.

In packaging, our aim is to introduce 100% plant-based packaging that is 100% recyclable. We are committed to avoiding food waste along the supply chain. We are also committed to reducing our use of water and also to reusing and reclaiming water where possible. Across Europe, we have cut water usage by product by 20% in the last 10 years. In 2020, we implemented the Water Reclaim project in Kettering. This involves the addition of a new water treatment plant with a biological process that enables the reuse of water.
