Statement on the FSAI Reformulation Roadmap

At Danone Ireland, we have ambitious health commitments in place that complement the work of the Department of Health and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) Reformulation Taskforce, to support Irish consumers to make healthier food choices.

In February 2023, we committed that at least 90% of our dairy, plant-based, and beverages product portfolio, would not be high in sugar, salt, or fat (HFSS), by sales volume, as defined by current UK policy and legislation and referred to by relevant authorities* in Ireland. This is a target that we are already reaching and exceeding.

In recent years, we have engaged with the FSAI Reformulation Taskforce and Department of Health, to share our reformulation progress, with a specific focus on our yogurts and yogurt drinks product portfolio (Activia, Actimel, Light & Free, GetPRO). This is work that Danone has been voluntarily carrying out since 2015, and which complements the sugar, saturated fat and calorie reduction targets set out in the FSAI’s Food Product Reformulation Roadmap for Ireland 2021-2025 (now 2027). Our reformulation journey continues, and we are proud of our progress to date. Between 2015-2024, we reduced the sales-weighted average of sugar in our yogurt category in Ireland by 19% and saturated fat by 25%.**

We are pleased that this work supports the FSAI’s 2021-2025 reformulation roadmap (now 2027) ambition to reduce sugar by 20% by 2025, and that, in voluntarily reducing sugar from our yogurt products, without compromising on taste, we are striving to make healthier choices easier for Irish consumers. We are also proud that this work aligns with the Healthy Ireland framework and overall intent to improve the health and wellbeing of Ireland over the coming generations.
