Danone is the second largest global producer (in value) of bottled waters and owns the world’s biggest-selling brand with Aqua in Indonesia. With 19.8 billion litres of bottled water marketed in 2007, Danone accounts for 10% of the global market. The year 2007 was a good one for the Waters business line, with 4% growth at constant structure and exchange rates. Outside Asia the figure was 6%. This showing should be considered in the context of a year marked by unseasonable summer weather in Western Europe and the complex Wahaha situation in China.

In North and South America as a whole the Waters line posted business growth of 21.4% with a boom of nearly 40% in Argentina. In Mexico Bonafont’s 18% growth rate owed much to a successful showing in the home and office delivery (HOD) market.
In China the Waters business line saw Danone Health Drink’s growth accelerate to 19% in its core market, making it number 1 on the Chinese bottled water market.
In Indonesia Aqua confirmed its standing as the world’s foremost producer of bottled water with particularly high levels of investment.
