Focus on
:: Committed to providing consumers with "health through food", Danone has decided, in conjunction with nine other food and beverage companies, to improve the nutrition information available on product packaging.
The aim is to provide practical and comparable information to help consumers rapidly understand the nutritional contributions of foods and beverages. For some time, consumers have expressed a need for clear, easily compared, information on food products.
In European Union countries therefore, Danone food and drinks packagings will gradually display the following information:
On the front of the product, a visual will indicate:
1. The energy value of the product (in kcal) per portion. For example, for a 125 gram pot of yoghurt or a 25 cl glass of a beverage.
2. The contribution of the portion to daily energy needs. This is expressed as a percentage of the Guideline Daily Amount (GDA) for an adult woman (2000 kcal).
At the back or side of the packaging:
A nutrition composition table giving details per portion and for 100 grams of nutrient content of the product, and their equivalence as a percentage of GDA for each nutrient. Energy value plus information on seven nutrients has to be displayed, with information on proteins, carbohydrates including sugar, lipids including saturated fatty acids, fibres and sodium.
This effort forms part of Danone’s commitment to contribute to the fight against obesity and will help consumers make healthy well-informed decisions on food.
