The necessary evolution of agriculture

::Although the farming industry is vital to our way of life, it is responsible for nearly 25% of greenhouse gases, and accounts for 70% of all water consumption and 40% of groundwater pollution. For nearly ten years Groupe DANONE has worked with farmers to develop sustainable farming practices, in particular in the dairy product chain. Although DANONE uses only 0.8% of the world’s milk output—some four billion litters nonetheless—, it is still a major player in the dairy product chain in over 20 countries, with 15,000 pickup points worldwide. 

Against that background, it is difficult not to feel concerned by the challenge of making the dairy industry as environmentally friendly as possible. Particularly considering a global backdrop of food scares since the end of the 1990s: consumers are becoming increasingly vocal in their demands for quality and traceability.
