The 1st low-calorie yogurt with Stevia extract

- After 3 years of research and development focusing on natural sweeteners, Vitalinea has innovated and launched the first yogurt with Stevia extract in France in June 2010. Originally from South America, Stevia is a plant that has been consumed by the Indians of Paraguay for its sweetening properties for many centuries.

- Prepared by a purely physical process, Stevia extract fulfills consumers’ expectations as a natural product. Moreover, the extract sweetens 200- to 300-fold more powerfully than conventional sugar, while remaining calorie-free. Stevia’s particular taste nonetheless includes a slight tang of licorice.
For that reason, zero-fat Taillefine (Vitalinea) fruit yogurts with Stevia extract have been developed with a hint of cane sugar to enhance the pleasure of the experience. Not only are the yogurts low in calories, they are also colorant- and preservative-free.

- Outside of South America, Stevia extracts have been consumed in Asia
for decades. Their food safety was confirmed by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) in 2008, and, more recently, by the
European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in April 2010, thus affording prospects
of new markets.
