The main challenges

:: To maintain the Danone’s long-term competitive advantage, Danone Research is constantly challenging to offer products with meaningful differentiation in terms of health and nutritional benefits, packaging, texture, taste and sensory signature.

Tomorrows challenges will be widely influenced by:

- The ageing population, specifically in the developed countries;
- The access to a healthy food in the emerging countries;
- The evolving understanding of the food impact on health and the expectancy of a more and more    targeted food to adress specific needs.

Therefore, three priorities for action express the great nutritional and public health challenges of today. They cut across all products and all consumer groups, as well as all age groups:

- Contributing to the well-being and the balanced daily diet of consumers by influencing eating habits    through education and coaching;
- Adapting food's nutritional profile to the specific needs of given populations;
- Offering products with specific and targeted effects to help build people’s health capital, optimise    their organic functions and improve their quality of life.

Multidisciplinary teams, whose participants originate from central and local teams, are thus the key to Danone’s circle of innovation. This type of team-work encourages dialogue, knowledge sharing and creativity. More and more, consumers, as well as scientific experts, are fully part of the innovation process. From a prospective point of view, it also helps anticipate the evolution of consumer expectations and habits.
