Sustainable Agriculture

We support agriculture that is competitive, respects natural ecosystems and generates both economic and social value.

Our ability to protect our global food cycle is key to the sustainability of our business. We therefore want to build and preserve a healthy food cycle. Offering a healthier and more sustainable diet goes hand-in-hand with resilient farms that work in harmony with nature and generate economic and social value. Our sustainable agriculture goals are central to meeting this vision. We will develop new tools and solutions, collaborate with farmers driving resource efficient farming and continue to seek solutions to our agricultural challenges in a transparent, open dialogue with stakeholders.

Producing healthy and safe foods

We work to preserve and enhance the quality of sustainably produced agricultural raw materials from farm to consumer. We collaborate with farmers, providing them with advice, training and information on quality and best practices, and we act with our stakeholders along the food chain to ensure the highest quality and food safety of our products.

Encouraging resource-efficient practices

For a farm to be sustainable, it must be economically viable. We work with other food industry stakeholders to help farmers produce cost-efficient, nutritious ingredients while earning a sustainable living that allows them to support their families. In addition, we support specific programs to reduce and reclaim agricultural waste. 

Generate economic and social value for the farmers

The well-being of farmers is a key factor in sustainable agriculture. We will encourage business models that provide farmers a sustainable income, preserve their well-being and health, and support sharing of best practice and cooperation with stakeholders.

Source raw materials sustainably

Sustainable agriculture must constantly strive to maintain the delicate balance in the ecosystems and natural cycles it depends on. Danone’s key priorities are to preserve and improve the quality of soil, protect and manage water resources, protect biodiversity, minimize greenhouse gas emissions and maximize carbon capture all whilst promoting animal welfare. These are the key priorities of our sustainable sourcing strategy.
