Mission: health and sustainability
Healthiest Hydration
Water is vital for us: at least 60% of our body is water.
Actually, many of us tend not to drink enough. Even though we get water from foods, the main source of water intake comes through drinking. We need to drink around 2 litres a day to compensate for our natural water losses. If punctual dehydration has a demonstrated impact on physical performance, not drinking enough over time may impact kidney health.
As the quantity of what we drink is important for our health, the quality is also key. In the context of the development of a worldwide obesity, it is important to recall that water is the healthiest way to hydrate. Indeed, excessive and habitual consumption of sugar sweetened beverages has been linked to overweight and obesity and to their health consequences. So, promoting water consumption is a simple and decisive step towards a healthier lifestyle and an effective strategy to prevent overweight and obesity.
The R&D Waters teams are therefore focused on providing to the scientific community outstanding research on the impact of hydration/dehydration on health. Public health issues are also adressed by studying the role of hydration pathologies as kidney and urinary diseases.
Sustainable development
Danone Research teams are also committed to sustainable development, which involves:
- Reducing our CO2 footprint by measuring and monitoring it, by reducing the weight of bottles packaging, and using recycled PET.
- Development and sustainable management of groundwater resources.
- Mastering risks through natural processes and protection of ground waters.
