Supply Chain at Danone
Last update january 2011
::The Supply Chain, a relatively recent but nonetheless strategic component of the business, ensures that Danone products get to consumers under the best possible conditions and at the best price. The department has four core missions: sales forecasting, factory production scheduling, customer service and logistics.
The Forecasting team establishes sales forecasts in conjunction with the Sales and Marketing teams. The Planning team draws up plant production schedules. The Customer Service team is responsible for optimising the flow of orders placed by Danone’s customers and, at the end of the chain, the Logistics team manages the physical flow of merchandise. The Supply Chain is a multifaceted enterprise, offering a diverse range of career options central to Danone’s operations. It requires rigorous managers of analytical mind, with good communication skills.
“I came to France five years ago after starting out with Danone in several different Business Units, including in the Canaries and Barcelona, and have been at Danone France since 2009, managing the logistics base in Tours. Our role here is to take delivery of dairy products sent by our factories (Danacol, Danette, Activia, Actimel, etc.), package them, and then send them out to our customers.
I’ve long been convinced that Danone is a company in a class by itself. The human dimension is given such importance here: Before we make a decision, we first consider the impact on our employees. Danone wants committed employees and does what it takes for each person to really want to work for the company’s greatest good. And when I’m talking with my counterparts working in other businesses, I understand that Danone is a step ahead in the human aspect of the workplace. For example, last September, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Tours base and the employees were all invited on-site with their families. This kind of event creates a very pleasant work atmosphere for the women and men who work here. ”
