Preserving biodiversity, protecting living beings
:: Convinced that any company must consider itself to be a fully-fledged ecosystem operating within a broader ecosystem, Danone is making preserving biodiversity a major issue.
Indeed, as an agri-food company, over 95% of the group's raw materials come from living beings : the quality of the finished products offered by the group's brands therefore partly depends on the quality of the ecosystem that the raw materials comprising them came from. For example, milk quality depends on the health of the cows, which depends on their feed and their living conditions : the more varied and the closer to grazing their feed is, the more nutritional the milk produced will be, with a balanced composition. Likewise, water derives its qualities from the ecosystem that shelters its source. In order to protect water, you therefore have to protect the ecosystem where it is located.
Nowadays, the policy of preserving biodiversity implemented by Danone is structured around three main orientations :
- Decreasing Danone's impact on operating sites ;
- Preserving biodiversity and reducing Danone's impact on the major ecosystems that the raw materials used by the group come from ;
- Support for initiatives carried out by international organizations (Ramsar, the FAO, etc.) and associations (the WWF, etc.) aimed at restoring ecosystems.
